On behalf of the community of Sant’Egidio in Nigeria, I would like to seek funds to help the volunteers and members of Sant’Egidio carry out a medical outreach in the camps of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Abuja, the capital city.

Sant’Egidio in Nigeria has been frequenting the IDP camp in Abuja for over 10 years now and has been providing services to the children through the School of Peace, where we assist children who have the most difficulty accessing education.

Our presence in the camp has exposed us to the many challenges faced by residents. Chief among these challenges is the deteriorating health conditions suffered by both adults and children. Access to good health facilities is but a dream. Unfortunately, this situation results in a high prevalence of communicable diseases, malaria, open wounds without adequate treatment, children with nutritional deficiencies, mental health issues, and pregnant mothers in dire situations.

That is why this medical outreach will be a way to bridge the gap in the health conditions of the camp. Apart from the many volunteers that would be available, Sant’Egidio in Abuja hopes to have a medical outreach with doctors, nurses, and pharmacists equipped with medicines and appropriate equipments.

This outreach will take place on October 1st, 2024. Every donation will be used to purchase the medicines and equipments for the outreach as well as for the mobilisation of medical personnels.
