WORLD HEPATITIS DAY
DESCRIPTION
World Hepatitis Day is observed every year on July 28 to raise global awareness of viral hepatitis, a group of infectious diseases known as hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, which affect millions of people worldwide. The day also commemorates the birth of Dr. Baruch Blumberg, the Nobel Prize-winning scientist who discovered the hepatitis B virus and developed its vaccine.
The day is one of only four official disease-specific global health days recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). It aims to promote better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of hepatitis to eliminate the disease as a public health threat by 2030, in line with the WHO's global health goals.
