The International Women's Day is a day set aside globally to honour the social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments of women. The Women Leadership Lecture Series (WLLS) is a yearly event put together by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council to mark this day. Women are still underrepresented in leadership roles in corporations, institutions of higher education, and the political sector especially in light of the changing population demographics. The empowerment of the women is a global imperative but despite important progress in promoting gender equality, there remains an urgent need to address structural barriers to women’s economic empowerment and full inclusion in economic activity. This year’s theme for WLLS looks at promoting participation of women in governance and leadership roles.
