Biography of Faston Lyton Bwanali

Faston Lyton Bwanali is a dedicated community development practitioner, academic, and humanitarian advocate from Malawi. He holds a first-class Bachelor’s Degree in Transformative Community Development from Mzuzu University and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Transformative Community Development under the ACENUB project.

Faston currently serves as an Associate Lecturer at Mzuzu University and is the Acting Director of Ebenezer Community Development Organisation (ECOD). Through ECOD, he works to promote child protection, climate justice, food security, education, health, environmental conservation, peacebuilding, advocacy, and empowerment of vulnerable communities.

He has gained extensive experience working with government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and research initiatives. His professional experience includes serving as an Assistant Registration Officer under the National Registration Bureau, a Social Welfare Intern at Phalombe District Council, a Student Affairs Intern at Mzuzu University, and an Enumerator for various research and development projects.

Faston has actively participated in humanitarian and community resilience initiatives, including responses during the Cyclone Freddy disaster response in Malawi. His academic and research interests focus on climate-resilient agriculture, neglected and underutilized crops, food security, household income improvement, and sustainable community transformation.

His current research examines ground yam (Dioscorea spp.) production, household income, and food security in Nkhata Bay District, Malawi, contributing to ongoing discussions on resilient agricultural systems and sustainable livelihoods.

Driven by a passion for social transformation, Faston continues to champion initiatives that empower marginalized communities and promote sustainable development in Malawi and beyond.
